Miss Jane Privacy Policy

What personal information do we collect?
We collect the country and postal code associated with your Alexa device, but only if you consent to sharing it with us. You may still use the service without consenting to share the information.

Why do we require this information?
We use this information as a convenvice to provide a local weather forecast for your location without you having to specify that location in your spoken query. For example, if you live in Springfield, Massachusetts, and you enable access to your device's country and postal code, your queries such as "Alexa, ask Miss Jane for the weather," or, once in the skill, "what's the forecast for Friday," will automatically result in the forecast for your Springfield location. If you did not consent to share the information, you would have to specify your location in your spoken query in every session (e.g. "Alexa, ask Miss Jane for the forecast for Springfield, Massachusetts on Friday").

How is this information collected?
If you have specified a country and postal code in the Alexa settings for your device and given your consent, Amazon will shares with our skill the country and postal code information. If we do not already have your consent, we request your consent to access the country and postal code in the following ways:

  1. When enabling the skill in the Alexa Application
  2. On the first occasion that we receive an invocation of the skill that does not have the city specified. This typically takes place on your first use of our services after enabling the skill.

If you approve, Amazon will enable access to the country and postal code, and it will be used as described below for current and future sessions with our skill, unless and until you rescind consent. When approved, the country and postal code will also appear in log files related to use of the skill, along with the date and time of the session.

How is this information used?
If enabled, the country and postal code may be used (a) to generate a spoken report for current weather conditions or forecast, when specified as a location variable within the query to the third-party geolocation and/or weather-forecasting service for each spoken request; and/or (b) to allow us to create aggregate reports of usage of our services by location, or to debug issues with our services when errors occur.

In no case is the country and postal code associated with any other data that could be used for identification purposes, nor do we publish, sell or otherwise share this information with any other third party.

What control do I have over this information?
When enabling the skill via the Alexa application, you may choose to approve or deny access to this information. If you have enabled the skill without access to the information and use the skill without specifying a location, you may provide consent by visiting the 'Activity' section of the Alexa application, or you may continue to use the skill by specifying a location in your queries. You may also approve or rescind your consent at any time by visiting our skill page in the 'Skills & Games' section of the Alexa application.
